The Guiding Trail

We're on the Guiding trail,
We're on the Guiding trail

Swinging as we go,

Guiding bound.

We're on the Guiding trail

We're on the Guiding trail

Singing, singing, everybody singing

Guiding bound

The jamboree song

March, march, march on the road with me

To the Boy Scout Jamboree

Join the throng & swing along

As we sing our song

CHORUS

Jamboree, jamboree

Come give three hearty cheers

And we'll go marching on together

Another 50 years

Every hour let the valleys ring

With the scouty songs we sing

Underneath the stars at night

In the camp fire's light

CHORUS

We're the boys of the left hand shake

Boy Scouts all & wide awake

Hiking over hill & dale

Singing on the trail

CHORUS

Marching on with the BP lead

Ev'ry colour, ev'ry creed

All for one & life is good

In our brotherhood

CHORUS

Years from now down a mem'ry lane

We shall work & live again

Their guest days with you & me

At the Jamboree

CHORUS

The Golden Jubilee in 1959 was celebrated with a Jamboree at Chatsworth, which I attended

Rockets & races, sputniks & spaces

This is the world we know

Speed is our master

Faster, faster

That is the way things go.

Yet we remember how in September

Just 50 years ago

Girls in their pigtails

Gate-crashed gaily

Into the boys own show

CHORUS
And so the Guides come swinging along

Still young & strong

And we can't imagine how you'd get on without us

Now that we've lived so long

Now we are older, stronger, bolder

Playing a wider game

Yet in our camping, questing, tramping

Surely we're just the same.

Love for our labour, care for our neighbour,

These are the things we learn

Doing & daring, seeking, sharing

Finding the next good turn

CHORUS

Growing & changing, now we all are ranging

Out to the farthest sea

From distant places smiling faces

Join in, Greeted our Jubilee

You who love Guiding, where are you hiding?

This is a gift to give

You who pass by us, come & try us

This is the life to live

CHORUS

This little Guiding light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
This little Guiding light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
This little Guiding light of mine
I'm going to let it shine, let it shine
All the time, let it shine.

Don't you pouf my little light out
I'm going to let it shine
Etc

Take my little light round the block
I'm going to let it shine
Etc

Hide it under a bush? Oh no!
I'm going to let it shine
Etc

Don't you pouf my little light out
I.m going to let it shine
Take my little light round the block
I'm going to let it shine
Hide it under a bush? Oh no!
I'm going to let it shine, let it shine
All the time, let it shine

Who are these?
Swinging along the road
With a pack on the back
A song in the heart
To ease the load.
It is forty years or more
Since they crowded through the door
And they're coming along
As brave & strong
As ever they were before

CHORUS
They are Guides, all Guides.
And in unexpected places
You'll find their friendly faces
And a ready hand besides.
And theres not much danger
Of finding you're a stranger
For Commissioner or Ranger
They are Guides, all Guides

Who are these?
Living beneath the sky
While the shining sun
The pattering rain
The clouds pass by.
They will dine beneath the boughs
And their leader always vows
That they're never afraid of wasps
And hardly ever afraid of cows

CHORUS

Who are these?
Sitting around the fire
They'll be happy to have your company
If that is your desire
And the evening will be gay
At the sunset hour of day
With a song to sing
And a tale to tell
And many a tune to play
